Artichoke Extract is a high-quality extract of globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus) leaves, standardized to 5% cynarin, the active phytochemical constituent.
Artichoke is a large, perennial plant belonging to the daisy family, native to southern Europe and cultivated today in countries surrounding the Mediterranean basin as well as in Caliornia’s midcoastal region. It produces purple-green edible flower buds with triangular scales and a fleshy base known as the “heart.” Its stems, leaves and roots, although bitter tasting, can also be eaten or dried to make tea or supplements.
Artichoke was used by ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians as both a food source and to support liver, digestive and skin health.
